ESP Medical Leadership is Part of the Emergency Department Team

The Emergency Department Medical Director is the foundation for developing collaborative partnerships with our client hospitals. The Medical Director leads and stabilizes the physician group, works collaboratively with nursing leadership and is also a liaison to the medical staff. ESP Medical Directors understand that the success of the Emergency Department depends on many components, and only when working together, are optimal patient-centric results achieved.

ESP believes the Medical Director and Director of the Emergency Department (Nursing Director) are co-directors of the Emergency Department. It is important that both endorse and promote a team approach. Specifically, the Medical Director collaborates with nursing leadership, participates in onsite patient satisfaction and process improvement programs, physician education, and day-to-day issues. On the rare occasion that patients are dissatisfied, ESP Medical Directors personally handle all Emergency Department medical complaints.

ESP Support in Achieving CMS Core Measures

ESP shares data with our physicians and supports hospital efforts to achieve the highest compliance with CMS core measures. Today, ESP uses PQRI and other physician-specific data to help ensure that all ESP physicians are compliant with each hospital’s core measurements. Our Medical Director's take the lead in the education of the physicians in this effort. For example, they ensure procedures – such as aspirin and beta blocker administration in acute myocardial infarction and the administration of proper antibiotics within four hours to the Community-Acquired Pneumonia patient – are in place.
